One of the things that you should look out for when purchasing essential oils is the pricing. This ultimately determines if the oil is worth buying or not. If you come upon a shop which sells all essential oils at the same price, then this is a red flag that the oils may not be real essential oils. Do not fall victim to buying some artificially-made perfume oils. Only real essential oils are able to provide the relief and therapeutic effects that it claims.
With that said, there are many factors that affects the pricing of essential oils. Here are some of them.
Country of Origin
One of the factors that may affect the price of the essential oil is the country of origin. Your dealer must be able to point out where a certain oil came from. The country of origin will tell you about the quality of the plant. There are some plants that can only grow in temperate regions while there are other plants that can only grow in tropical regions. Checking the country of origin can also indicate the quality of the oil. Of course, it goes without saying that the farther the country of origin, the more expensive it is.
Method of Extraction
Of course, the difficulty of extraction will ultimately determine the price of the essential oil. For example, rose essential oil may cost a lot because it will need up to 12,000 flowers just to complete 5ml of oil. Lavender, on the other hand, can create 3 liters of lavender oil from 100 kilos of the flower. With the different method of growing the plant, rose oil is more expensive than lavender. The same concept applies to other essential oils. The price will depend on the difficulty it took for the extractor to get the oil. The price may also vary depending on the mode of extraction. The process of enfleurage will usually result in better quality but more expensive oils.
Oil Quality
Last but not the least, there is oil quality. Of course, this will depend on some factors like how the plant is grown, how it is cultivated and harvested. The quality of the plant will also depend on the soil and the geographic conditions. This is the reason why some essential oils are better if they are from a certain country. Proper care must also be observed in harvesting. For example, Jasmine is a quite sensitive plant. Its flowers must be picked up by hand at dawn. There are also other plants that have certain requirements so be sure to read about them before you start purchasing your essential oils.
So these are just some of the factors that may affect the pricing of the oil. So if you walk into an aromatherapy store and found out that they come in different prices. Do not be surprised. They come from different plants to begin with and they are not chemically made. If you really want to incorporate aromatherapy into your life, then you will do yourself some good if you will only look for high quality, therapeutic grade essential oils. Even if they are expensive, they can help your body cope with conditions without the nasty side effects.
